Jan Henderson

Jan commenced her, now thirty year, role in the design industry with the award-winning and internationally recognised interior design company, Mitchelson and Henderson. It was here that she instinctively understood that a keen eye for design was not enough to sustain a business. Effectively Jan saw the need for exemplar client and media relations as a means to create advocates and thereby a perpetuating broadening client base. Positive media coverage was key to this expansion and Jan quickly evolved a strategic and deliberate approach to this side of the industry. Indeed, it is her customer relation and media management skills that have seen her excel in the design, catering, legal, furnishing and publishing industries.

Jan has a variety of publishing experience – as editor of inside magazine where she was integral to the development of the IDEA Awards, then as Associate Publisher with Architecture Media where she introduced Awards and oversaw sponsorship.

Establishing HendersonMC in 2013, Jan worked concurrently as editor of Architel.tv and also returned to inside, this time as co-editor, where she remained for six years. Subsequently, Jan became acting-editor of Indesign and remains at Indesign Media Asia Pacific where she is currently INDE.Awards Programme Director, involved with the Sustainability Awards and is also an editor writing profile and project articles and contributing to the suite of magazines and online vehicles within Indesign.

During the past year and a half Jan has organised and moderated numerous webinars and participated in virtual Awards and gala presentations. Through her large networks she is busy planning conferences and panel discussions and embraces the technology that is ever-changing in the online world while also consulting to a select group of clients within the architecture and design community.

Along with colleague Dianna Snape, Jan recently completed a book, Architecture at the Heart of the Home, published in October 2021 by Thames & Hudson.
